How Many Original MLB Teams are Still in Their Original Cities?

Okay I have a little bet with my brother. How many original Major League Baseball teams are still their original cities? By this I mean teams that were in the AL and NL the years the leagues were founded?

Here is what I have:

AL: Chicago White Sox, Boston Red Sox, NY Yankees, Detroit Tigers, Cleveland Indians.

NL: Chicago Cubs, Philadelphia Phillies, Cincinnati Reds, St. Louis Cardinals.

I thought the Pittsburgh Pirates might be in there, they have been together many years. But no. They were started playing several years after the NL was founded.

  1. Incorrect on the NY Yankees...they started as the Baltimore Orioles in 1901...moved to NY in 1903 (league started in 1901).

  3. Well, first off, Babe Ruth played his last game on May 31, 1935. He grounded out.

He died on August 16, 1948 at age 53.

Babe Ruth made his last appearance at Sportsman’s Park on June 19, 1948. This may have been his last appearance in a big league ball park as he had appeared at Yankee Stadium for the last time a week earlier. Although only 53 years old, Ruth was dying of throat cancer and would pass away eight weeks later.

There's quite a list of info about Ruth at http://www.brainyhistory.com/events/1938/november_2_1938_96856.html.
